Luis Suarez not for sale, Liverpool owner says

Suarez, 26, says the club pledged to release him from his contract if the team failed to qualify for the 2013-2014 Champions League and has publicly demanded that the English club keep that promise.

“For all the top clubs it’s extremely important (not to sell to a rival) but especially for Liverpool because we’re not in Europe this year and have not been in the Champions League for a while,” the American said.

“We are not going to sell Luis,” U.S. Henry said during a brief stop in Liverpool.

Premier League rival Arsenal has already presented Liverpool with two offers for Suarez, the second of them exactly 1 pound more than a supposed 40 million pound ($62 million) rescission clause in the striker’s contract.

The principal owner of Liverpool FC vowed that the club would not sell Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez this summer at any price.

“He won’t be sold even if a foreign club comes in because we do not have time to sign a suitable replacement,” Henry said. The Boston Red Sox owner said Suarez and his agent, Pere Guardiola, had been told that any deal for him to leave Liverpool needed to be wrapped up early in the transfer window so coach Brendan Rodgers would have time to find a suitable replacement.

Liverpool, however, says there is no such release clause in Suarez’s deal.

He also maintains that he is intent on forcing the club to move him elsewhere before the summer transfer window closes on Sept. “It’s a football reason. It’s not about finances.”. magnate John W. 2.

Rodgers, who has told the media that no promises were made to Suarez, has instructed the player to train alone due to his “total disrespect” for Liverpool.

Henry said it would be “ludicrous” to sell the Uruguayan international, the second-leading goal scorer in the 2012-2013 Premier League season, to an English rival.

The Uruguayan will miss the first six games of the 2013-2014 Premier League season as he remains on suspension after biting an opposing player during a match
