Aron Johannsson makes Bundesliga debut

During his 33 minutes on the pitch, the 24-year-old took one shot and completed 9 of his 12 attempted passes. 

Fellow U.S. national team striker Aron Johannsson made his Bundesliga debut Saturday, playing the final 33 minutes of Werder Bremen’s 3-0 loss to Schalke. 

Unfortunately for Bremen, Schalke would add two more goals after Johannsson’s entry as last season’s 10th-place finisher fell at home to begin the season. 

With Bremen down 1-0 in the 57th minute, Johannsson came on for Levin Oztunali. 5, Johannsson was named to the bench for his new club on the Bundesliga’s opening day.


The American forward came off the bench in the second half of his new side’s opening-day loss to Schalke.

Following his $5.5 million move from AZ on Aug. international Alfredo Morales made his first Bundesliga appearance with Ingolstadt on Saturday, picking up an assist on Lukas Hinterseer’s 66th-minute strike in the newly promoted club’s 1-0 win against Mainz.
